Reach Out Camp

Did you know that 7% of children in South Carolina have a parent serving time in jail or prison? It's a shared sentence, because when a parent goes to prison, a child pays a price. Children with incarcerated parents tend to have fewer resources, live in unsafe communities, perform poorly in school, have poorer health, and suffer anxiety. Read more about these statistics here.

This summer marks the eighth year of Reach Out Camp (ROC) for children of incarcerated parents. In 2009, ten children attended ROC. In 2015, 56 children attended the special camp, and our goal is the same for 2016. These four days at Camp Gravatt offer children the opportunity to make friends, develop self confidence, have fun, feel safe, and experience God's unconditional love through their summer camp counselors and volunteers.

It costs approximately $350 per camper for ROC. Would you like to help? Right now, we need individuals and groups who are willing to donate to support ROC campers and volunteers who would like to provide homemade, nutritious meals for these children as well as the staff and volunteers. If you'd like to be a part of this very special ministry, please contact Lauri SoJourner.
